Proof-reading (& editing) of medical, legal, technical and general texts
Lingualearn services
Drawing on our large network of experienced proof-readers, we offer proof-reading for English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Russian, Chinese, Japanese and Arabic. We proof-read most types of text, but much of our work tends to be of a medical, technical and scientific nature. The procedure would typically be as follows:
- client submits outline details of the job type using our on-line form and a sample text (we suggest this is sent as a Word attachment to info@lingualearn.co.uk)
- if editing of the text is required, please also send us your guidelines, clear instructions or a template to follow
- we quote a fee based on certain factors such as length, timescale, language, the degree of accuracy required and the technical difficulty of the text
- payment can be made online using a credit card, by bank transfer or cheque.
Lingualearn is able to offer three very fast and flexible proof-reading services:
1. Bronze Service Proof-reading (high accuracy)
This service checks for spelling and grammar mistakes using proof-reading software and one proof-reader reading through the text slowly. This service is sufficiently accurate for most letters, emails, and documents with a small number of readers.
The cost of the bronze service is in the region of £15 to £25 [approx' $40 US, EUR 35, $55 CAN] per 1000 words for English, £30 to £50 [approx' $80 US, EUR 70, $110 CAN] per 1000 words for Western European languages. Other languages tend to be a little higher.
2. Silver Service Proof-reading (very high accuracy)
This service checks for spelling and grammar mistakes using proof-reading software and two proof-readers reading through the text slowly. The whole text is checked twice. This service is sufficiently accurate for presentations and documents with a small to medium number of readers.
The cost of the silver service is in the region of £30 to £50 [approx' $80 US, EUR 70, $110 CAN] per 1000 words for English, £60 to £100 [approx' $160 US, EUR 140, $210 CAN] per 1000 words for Western European languages. Other languages tend to be a little higher.
3. Gold Service Proof-reading (extremely high accuracy)
For very special or important documents, and those with a large number of readers, e.g. brochures and websites. This service checks for spelling and grammar mistakes using proof-reading software and three proof-readers reading through the text slowly. The whole text is checked three times.
The cost of the gold service is in the region of £45 to £75 [approx' $120 US, EUR 105, $165 CAN] per 1000 words for English, £90 to £150 [approx' $240 US, EUR 210, $330 CAN] per 1000 words for Western European languages. Other languages tend to be a little higher.
All three proof-reading services cover:
- spelling
- grammar
- punctuation
- layout
These guide prices are for proof-reading texts written by native speakers. Proof-reading of texts written by non-native speakers of the target language may cost considerably more as these texts might need considerable revision or rewriting. It may also be necessary to consult the author to check on intended meaning or clear up ambiguities.

EXTRA SERVICES
EDITING
Please note that we offer a high quality, flexible and rapid service. Our proof-readers may suggest improvements to the text as well as correct errors, however, we require specific guidelines or templates to carry out editing work, and this is normally charged extra.
CULTURAL APPROPRIACY
As an additional service we can ask our business culture consultants to check your text, photos and icons for cultural appropriacy. We charge an hourly rate of £60 to £90 per hour depending on the language and complexity of the texts.
FILE TRANSFER
We are able to cater for large projects with file transfer of up to 3 GBts. If you need to send us large files (>5MBts) or numerous files, please let us know. We'll give you a dedicated FTP account or a special email address.
